Stress First Aid

A peer-to-peer supportive model within an organization

Supportive and practical actions to assist nurses experiencing stress.

SFA helps team members identify and address early signs of stress reactions in themselves and others in an ongoing way (not just after “critical incidents”).

It immerses registered nurses in the use of strategy, innovation, demographics, research, values and other approaches to create a space that supports emotional well-being, addressing their organizations and to create long‐term performance and change in the workplace.

What is Stress First Aid (SFA)?

SFA is a framework of supportive and practical actions that assist nurses experiencing stress. SFA helps team members identify and address early signs of stress reactions in themselves and others in an ongoing way (not just after “critical incidents”). The program is designed to help organizations:

• Administer Stress First Aid (SFA) at the individual, unit, and organizational level
• Reduce stigma and normalize the assessment and management of stress
• Recognize stress injuries in health care professionals
• Maintain healthy stress and build resilience

SFA Train the Trainer is offered in three online sessions via zoom. Participants will learn the SFA model, training techniques and implementation strategies as a Trainer lens.

Who should attend: This program is designed for nurses.

To Date: We have hosted 7 cohorts for 205 nurses and 85 organizations across NJ. SFA is free of charge and contact hours are awarded after completion of the program.
